as a Raven knows of singing

A distributed sound performance

in collaboration with composer Jobina Tinnemans

Dusk, 5th & 6th October 2018
Llwyn Celyn, Cwmyoy, near Abergavenny NP7 7NE
Free to attend. Tickets available from Eventbrite.

Using temporary sound sculptures, DIY instruments and voice we will be using the hills and valleys around Llwyn Celyn as a vast, distributed instrument.

‘as a Raven knows of singing’ includes improvised, distributed sound performance by young people and adults from nearby towns and villages and the premiere of new choral work by Jobina Tinnemans, performed by Unicorn Singers.

It forms part of ‘Cynefin – of this place’, the re-opening of Llwyn Celyn, a medieval hall house in the Llanthony Valley, which has over the last few years undergone painstaking restoration by the Landmark Trust. Cynefin also features work by the artists Toril Brancher, Catherine Baker and poet clare e. potter.

The title comes from the glossaries of Gwenhwyseg (a ‘lost’ welsh dialect spoken in Gwent) compiled by Iolo Morgannwg: “Cywnefin – cywnefin Bran a chann, a sarcasm, i.e. you know as much of it as a Raven knows of singing, or of a song. Glam” . The Glossaries are held in the archive at St Fagan’s National Museum of History.

Commissioned and supported by Landmark Trust and Peak

Volunteers sought for sound performance

I'm looking for volunteer performers to take part in 'as a Raven knows of singing', a distributed sound performance which marks the re-opening of Llwyn Celyn, a medieval hall house near Abergavenny, which has over the last few years undergone painstaking restoration by the Landmark Trust.  I've been working with composer Jobina Tinnemans to develop a new performance piece to mark the end of restoration and the start of a new chapter in the building’s long history. Using temporary sound sculptures, DIY instruments and voice we will be using the hills and valleys around Llwyn Celyn as a vast, distributed instrument. The performances are on the evenings on 5th and 6th October, 201 [...] Read more about Volunteers sought for sound performance
